As a guide always remember the general rule – the bigger the number the finer the sewing needle.
Embroidery needles have longer eyes than needles used for plain sewing (sharps). They are medium length.
Size 8 is good for smocking on a fine fabric. This needle takes two strands of stranded cotton quite easily.
