Crowned Crane MD

Crowned Cranes are very large birds, measuring about 105cms with straw-coloured crests and a highly characteristic trumpeting call. They often perform dancing displays in pairs or in groups. These birds are revered and protected by rural tribes-people who believe that they bring rain. They are common now only where extensive floodplains still exist. They eat frogs, reptiles, insects and fallen grain.
