The idea of a trousseau went out of fashion but now with handmade items being looked upon as having value, a handmade trousseau is back in vogue. The word trousseau is of French origin and refers to the clothes, linen and other belongings collected by the bride before her marriage. Today emphasis is on handmade linen for the bride’s home.
I have decided to share a few ideas and patterns during the next few months and hope you will find them of interest.
A good start is an outline stitch worked in stem stitch. This skill can be applied to any number of items.
My Red work tea cosy is an example.
White on white stem stitch used extensively on my Dandelion tray cloth shows quite a different effect using the same stitch.
