I am including a few of ‘How To’ step-by-step pictures of my easy to make hangers. They are relaxing to knit while in company or watching the TV and if assembled carefully, look great and make a special hand made gift.

Materials :

Using knitting needles cast on 20 stitches leaving a tail for stitching up and knit in garter stitch until long enough to cover your hanger.  I find 160 rows (count 80 ridges) is usually a good length for an adult coat hanger.

Cast off when you have checked your length and follow instructions below for assembling your coat hanger.

Wrap batting over and secure ends

Wrap batting over the coat hanger and secure the end with a few stitches

Metal hook through middle of knitting

Insert the metal hook of the coat hanger through the middle of the completed knitting and then cover the hook with plastic tubing.

Stitch edges together

Start working from the end of the coathanger and stitch the edges together at the bottom towards the middle.

Completed cover

Stitch the bottom edges together from the other end working to the middle and this is the covered coat hanger.

Our Valentine coat hanger is quick and easy to make. It is decorated with a rose and red hearts

The flower and hearts were worked in 4ply Premier Cotton colour 009 Lipstick. This is a good thread to have on hand for crochet or knitted Christmas gifts. You will notice that I made two similar flowers and stitched them together to add fullness.
